  • Capabilities:
Nova Lift - Using a Harken 32, two speed winch with a 10" handle will require only 13 lbs of winch handle pressure to lift 200 lbs.

Carefully formed stainless steel tubing with strategically placed internal reinforcing produces an arm that is smooth externally, strong and yet still surprisingly lightweight.

Internal line guides, special cast end fitting, a rotating mount tube with it's own exit box, bearings, cleat and a unique rail clamp assembly makes this hoist unique and easy to install on almost any vessel.

The light weight arm slips telescopically into the mount tube which is securely clamped to the vessel's stern rail while its base (adjustable to a 60 degree slope) is attached to the deck, coaming or transom.  The lifting line, which easily passes down inside the arm, exits the mount tube via a sheave box.  The mounting tube can rotate 360 degrees in order to align the sheave box with the chosen cockpit winch before clamping.  The rail clamp attaches to railings up to 1 1/8" diameter sloping up to 30 degrees from horizontal.

Nova Lift accommodates railing heights up to 30" high.  Vessels with rails higher than 30" will require the use of a deck pad (not included) to raise the installation to the proper height.

Nova Lift comes with all rail and deck mounting hardware, 30 feet of 3/8" Sta Set line, Harken swivel block and special deep throated S hook.  Only extras required are (3)  1/4" diameter screws or bolts suitable for attaching the base.

Mounting tube should be installed vertically. The rails on some installations such as a canoe stern have a lot of outward flare.  To accommodate this situation, Forespar offers a 2" standoff and a 5" standoff which consists of an extended saddle and bolt kit.

Caution:  It is extremely important that the vessel's rails are attached securely and in good condition.  The side load on the top rail is approximately 70% of the lifted load (varies with railing height).

  1. Forespar Nova Lift 4 Star Review

Posted by on 7th Aug 2013

This is an excellent product. I have to admit that at first I was put off by what seemed a very high price for what seemed to be avery simple piece of kit. But it is well designed and well made from top class materials. I have two minor complaints. The final stage of installation involves drilling two holes through the upright and riveting to the base. I am not sure what the purpose of this is and it seemed a bit belt and braces. In fact I have not yet done this and it works fine. What if you don't have a rivet gun? The second minor gripe is that I feel that the upright should be supplied with a rain cap to stop water and dirt entry when the lift is not in place eg if the boat is left for long periods. I guess the water would drain out the bottom through the bottom block but it does seem to allow the possibility of crud getting in and blocking the thing.

Other than that, excellent, easy to use and is also useful for suspending the awning! Roche Marine had the best price I could find and provided superb service.
